How to Measure Your Head for the Perfect Wig Fit
Getting accurate measurements is the key to finding a wig that fits comfortably and looks natural. Follow these simple steps to prepare and measure your head before ordering your wig.
What You’ll Need:
-
A soft measuring tape (cloth or flexible plastic)
-
A mirror (or a friend to help)
-
Something to secure your hair (wig cap, clips, or elastic band)
-
A notepad and pen to record your measurements
Step 1: Prepare Your Hair
-
If you have natural hair, smooth it down as flat as possible.
-
For long hair, braid it or pin it neatly against your head.
-
Put on a wig cap if possible — this helps mimic how your hair will be under the wig.
Step 2: Take Your Measurements
You’ll be taking 6 essential measurements:
-
Circumference
-
Place the tape at your front hairline.
-
Run it behind your ear, around the nape of your neck, up the other ear, and back to the starting point.
-
Record the measurement.
-
-
Front to Nape
-
Start at your front hairline (center of forehead).
-
Run the tape over the crown of your head to the nape of your neck.
-
Record the measurement.
-
-
Ear to Ear (Across Forehead)
-
Place the tape at the front of one ear.
-
Measure across your forehead to the front of the opposite ear.
-
Record the measurement.
-
-
Ear to Ear (Over Top of Head)
-
Place the tape at the top edge of one ear.
-
Stretch it across the crown of your head to the top edge of the other ear.
-
Record the measurement.
-
-
Temple to Temple (Around Back)
-
Place the tape at one temple (just above your ear).
-
Run it around the back of your head to the opposite temple.
-
Record the measurement.
-
-
Nape of Neck
-
Measure the width of your neck at the lowest point of your hairline (from one side to the other).
-
Record the measurement.
-
Step 3: Compare With Wig Size Chart
Most wigs come in Small, Medium, or Large sizes
✅ Pro Tip: Always measure twice to ensure accuracy. If your measurements fall between two sizes, choose the larger size for comfort.
